Old Gold Cancelled
Looks like Old Gold had to go do their homework or something, since Saturday's game is cancelled. Enjoy the day off and save it all for NERFU.

Old Gold Road Trip
It was kind of Old Gold to acknowledge on their site that the fact we "are moving down to D3 in the Fall doesn't make them any less harder". Less harder? So, is that the same amount harder than before? Assuming then that we are harder [than them], then clearly they aren't considering us any less so, right? Whatever it is they're trying to say, it's about hardness and their not taking it lightly. They also rightly point out that, " these guys [us] would just love to take us [them] out in a show of defiance to NERFU". So consider yourself on notice NERFU; is that the type of sloppy English that you put up with in D2?
For those of you looking to do more to Old Gold this weekend than correct their diction, I suggest you get yourself to the Park 'n' Ride at 9:30am on Saturday morning, to travel down to Boston in the lap of luxury. A bus has been hired for your conveyance, allowing you to spread out, sing a few songs, and drink even more than you usually do. There's plenty of room, so we welcome Old Boys, young(ish) boys, spectators and anyone else who thinks they can survive the ride back. Bring $20 to cover the costs, and then kick back for a good time.
It couldn't be less harder, right?
- before anyone from Old Gold e-mails me, I was being ironical. (so was that).

Beach Blanket Bingo
Boys and girls, PRFC is going to be making summer official with its Summer Kick-Off Party, scheduled for Memorial Day weekend. Mark you diaries for Sunday, May 29th at the Irish Heritage Center. We'll be co-hosting with our friends the Casco Bay Navigators, and the fun all starts at 6:30pm.
Since this is all in a good cause, I'll refrain from any jokes about "Irish heritage". In fact, I will go so far to point out that on May 29th 1798 in Irish history, under the command of Father Murphy of Boolavogue (a priest who had been in dispute with his bishop and who had reluctantly stepped forward as leader), the Wexford insurgents, gaining strength as they advance, march on Enniscorthy. The defences of the town are swept aside by means of a stampede of cattle. Elsewhere, General Sir James Duff arrives in Monasterevin where he augments his forces before marching on to Kildare and the Gibbet Rath and on this same date, the insurgents camp on Vinegar Hill, outside Enniscorthy town. In the north, the Ulster Directory of the United Irishmen meets to plan rebellion in counties Antrim and Down.
See, wasn't that a really interesting thing to have happen?
So let's all get together on the 29th and raise a glass for dear old Father Murphy, and all those other people...
...who's names I've already forgotten.

Big Ups to College Boys
Despite the weather, it looks as though Dom and his selectors have pulled together another outstanding Maine college team. Here's his communication and recap of events this weekend that he shared with his squad:
"Gentlemen,
Thank you so much for your commitment on Saturday - it was an honor to
be part of such a classy team. We went down having some guys bail at the
last minute and without any significant practice time and played two
teams stacked with Division I players to a drop-dead standstill. I think
this speaks volumes about your professionalism and the hard-nosed games
you all brought down.
It was really cool to see how the players from the different teams that
have such a strong rivalry came together so quickly into a cohesive
unit. The backline was a perfect mix of Colby and Bowdoin studs that
looked like it had played together for years. They shredded both the
Boston backline and the New Hampshire backline, which was mostly from
the Dartmouth team (seeded ninth in the Division I Sweet Sixteen this
year). The centers Nick Reid from Bowdoin and Nate Mylrea from Colby
looked like they'd played together since kids, both in the timing of
their crushing defensive coverage and in their combinations
ball-in-hand.
With such a strong showing, we of course placed some players on the
NERFU East team that is the next step up. I'd like to congratulate the
following guys on playing their way onto the side that will feed the NRU
team that goes to the Inter-Territorial Competition - where the National
Team will be picked:
Eric Brockmeyer (Colby)
Bill Dow (UMaine)
Brennan Moore (Colby)
Brian Durant (Bowdoin)
John Wheelock (Colby)
Nick Reid (Bowdoin)
I thought everyone did Maine proud and some other guys were very unlucky
to miss out, particularly Bill Reichl of UMaine and Nate Mylrea of
Colby, but there were some positions that had a very strong field of
competition.
Once again, thank you for your efforts and we'll talk to you soon. Best,
Dominic
PS On a side note, I spoke with some of you about coming to Portland
after graduation or over the summer to play for the Portland RFC. For
the rest of you, we have a fantastic program and Portland is a great
place to live and work. Send me a note if you are interested in having
us use our network of job contacts to help you explore living, working
and playing the game in the best city on the East Coast! "
Er, Dom...could you put me in touch with that "network of job contacts"?

North Shore - a result.
While I was busy with the blender, the rest of the boys made the trip down to North Shore this weekend, and came away with their first win of the season. And not just any win - a decisive 47-7 victory over our new D3 league-mates.
From everything I hear it was a forwards-run affair, with Hannes and Francis picking up a couple of tires each. I'm sure a couple of other people must have scored, but I'm not sure who. My scouting report also indicates that the backline benefited from a few more experienced players, giving everyone a chance to focus on the basics.
That's about all I do know, so if anyone wants to write a full match report, I'd be happy to post it. Other than that you'll just have to make do with these pictures and let your imagination run wild.

Seacoast Pictures
I don't have a match report for you for the Seacoast game, other than "it was the worst match ever". I've just got a few depressing pictures, of which this is one.
