Adding to the list of hungry mouths to feed at the Caouette household is this fine new addition, Timothy Steven. Weighing in at a very healthy 7lbs 13ozs, Timbo joined us early this past Sunday morning, the 11th, to take his place behind Tom and Nora at the bottom of the family food chain. Speaking as the youngest of five, I can tell you that each mouthful will be hard won.
Anyway, nice job Jess and Leo, the future of the Caouette dynasty is secure. Time to put a cork in it, tie a knot in it, get it cut off or just get separate bedrooms. With a junior Winch and Nelson right around the corner, the touchlines will soon be thick with rugrats.
What else happened on the 11th, you ask?
Well only the bloody sacking of Troy in 1184 BC. Are you happy now Helen? Who's going to clean up all that mess?
In 1509 Henry VIII married his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, who unlike Jess, had a hard time delivering any boys, and so found herself getting the boot in favor of Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves and so on. Unlike a lot of the others however, her head remained attached to her shoulders in perpetuity following their divorce.
The Broad Street Riot took place in Boston in 1837, between a company of English firefighters and an Irish funeral procession. I don't need to tell you who won, do I?
The International Surrealist Exhibition opened in London in 1936, during which Salvador Dali appropriately delivered a lecture wearing a deep sea diving suit, and nearly suffocated in the process. He was rescued by the young poet, David Gascoyne, which no doubt gave him the inspiration for his epic work, "Idiot in the helmet".
Seattle Slew romps home in the 1977 Belmont Stakes to clinch the Triple Crown, the only horse to do so with an undefeated record. In 17 starts he won 14, and placed twice. Not too shabby, and enough to see him elected to the pony Hall of Fame in 1981. His post racing life would be the envy of most horses (or people for that matter), siring Swale (Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner), Landaluce, A.P.Indy (1992 Horse of the Year, and grandson on his mother's side to Secretariat), and Surfside. Slew's daughter even managed to avoid the glue factory, and went on to produce all time leading money earning American Thoroughbred, Cigar. A.P.Indy himself went on to produce Horse of the Year, Mineshaft. Giddyap!
But I digress. Birthdays?
Vince Lombardi, Gene Wilder, Jackie Stewart, Donnie Van Zant, Joe Montana, Hugh Laurie and Jose Reyes, to name but a few that you might have heard of.
