The sun this weekend should be making you anxious to get out there and play some rugby, not to mention the kick-off of the Six Nations championship, which promises to be anybody's cup for the taking based on the first round of matches.
But before you are able to lace up you boots in anger, you're going to have to part with some of your hard earned cabbage to pay your CIPP and club dues.
Wha? Whoa? Nobody ever told you it was going to cost anything? You never paid nothin' before? We'll the free ride is over, and it's time to settle your account.
You can pay your CIPP dues on-line
here, or you can download
this form and fax or mail it in yourself. What are CIPP dues, and what are they for? Well, once we get a minimum of 15 players registered, USA Rugby will extend third-party liability insurance to the club in the event that any of our members should damage somebody else or their personal property. Of course, this doesn't cover any health or other insurance for yourself; that would be your own resposibility.
Fourtunately (or unfortunately) for us, USA Rugby has created a very transparent process, that now allows anyone to view CIPP registered players for any club. So for instance, you can view our list of registered players is
here by typing in "Portland", selecting our club from the list, and clicking "Create Report". Pretty sorry so far, but on a par with most other clubs at this time of year. Nevertheless, paying your CIPP dues is very important for the club for insurance purposes, and for you, if you want to play. Refs. this season will be checking this list, most likely twice, and they're going to find out....
This brings us on to club dues. While the $25 to USA Rugby may provide us with insurance, it doesn't pay for any of those other essentials necessary to run a club. Essentials such as jerseys to wear, fields to play on, balls to kick around, and beer to drink. That, my friends, all comes out of the clubs own coffers. Which, outside of the odd fundraising effort and occaisional donation is supplied by dues from each member.
The basic dues payment for any existing player, with a job, is $100 per season (Spring & Fall). Discounted rates are available for new players, students and the unemployed and can be discussed with our Treasurer, Leo Caouette. As can payment plans and other creative ideas you may have about repaying your debt to the club.
Given the number of players we currently enjoy, do not be surprised to find your payment status being taken in to consideration during selections for each game. So, make an effort to seek Leo out at practice and let him know your plans. Right now cash and checks are welcome, and soon we also hope to offer credit card as a payment option for those of you who are less liquid.
