Grudge Match 2
Portland Rugby once again had their hats handed to them at the the wheeled code by the Casco Bay Navigators. Mike Whitehead and Brad Williams led the Navigators to a 33-9 halftime lead before they let off the gas. Marc Fournier and Joey D'Andrea (who have been working out with the Navigators) put together some nice movements for Portland Rugby.

Brad Williams, Donnie Wright and Mike Whitehead put Gary Devoe into the boards

PORTLAND FINDS FIRST VICTORY OF THE SEASON!

It was a perfect day for Rugby. The air had a brisk feeling, the ground was Damp, and there was even a little drizzle in the air. Old Gold came to town with a better record then us looking to extend their winning streak. Portland was determined not to be 0 - 6. Portland started the game out like all games Fast and Furious and kept Old Gold on their heels. Then Lighting struck, With a little over four minute gone Jerry Alves was ejected from the game for retaliating a cheap shot thrown at him by an Old Gold player. Very shortly after Old Gold scored and drew first blood.
Playing down a man things started to look grim for the boys in Blue, but behind the hard nose playing of Todd Bowdoin (tighthead prop), The leadership of Freddie Haymen, Matt Winch coming in cold to the scrumhalf position and shining, and most of all the heart of the fourteen players out there Portland got on the board. CC broke some tackles and made a great run to put the ball in the tri zone. With that second wind Portland came alive and started driving the ball into Old gold territory.
Old Gold managed to get on the board two more times but that was not enough to stop Portland. Joey D, CC and A Pack player (Prop) all put the ball in for Portland Scores. Thanks to the excellent foot of Andy Nelson with conversions and a made Penalty, Portland came out on top 29 - 19.
This weekend is our last game of the season against a powerhouse Connecticut Yankees. Lets end the season on a positive note with a victory. Thursday night is the last practice of the year and we need to have everyone there. Lets not stop here winning feels good. Lets keep the train rolling and show everyone...maybe wounded Portland Rugby is full of PRIDE and will not go down without a fight. IT"S TIME TO PLAY OUR GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
