Portland V's Providence TO MUCH TO TO LITTLE
Portland traveled to Rhode Island hoping to find a spark in it's game and the first win of the year. Although Portland came out on fire and spent much of the day in the Providence half, We could just not put points on the board. This should be a wake up call for all active and inactive players. Portland this season is 0 - 5 the same group of dedicated players have been to practices and games week after week. We need numbers and experience at practices. This week Portland is back home in the safety of Fox field. Although out of the playoff hunt we need to hold our heads up and play with something No Portland player should be without. PRIDE!!! I'm proud to wear Portland colors, ask Jerry Alves if he is or CB Brady, Freddie Haymen, Mike DeSalle, Duncan Macdougal or a host of others. This weekend is big and we all have to produce, not just on the field but with team support and brotherhood. The game kicks off at 1:00, all active players be at the field at 11:45. Bring your game faces....it's time to play Portland's game.

Portland V's Springfield 25 - 15 Loss
It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon for the first home game of the year at Fox St Field. The Portland Boys returned home with fire in their eyes.Hoping to erase the bitter taste of defeat out of our mouths from the weekend before. The starting fifteen took the field in front of a sideline filled with Fans. From the starting kickoff Portland played hard nose aggressive Rugby. Portland went of the board first and did not let down. Most of the game would be played in the Springfield end but Portland couldn't seem to get the ball across the Tri-line. Springfield could see that the Portland team had a lot of new faces and veterans who were playing out of position and used this to their advantage. A few breakdowns in the Portland defense would prove costly and spoil the Homecoming giving Springfield the 25 - 15 victory. A few bright notes, Richard "Grittyman" Pheffer return did not pass by without a try being scored by the crafty old guy, Jerry Alves once again played and inspiring game which the young blood should watch and follow. Fred "Fastman: Hayman had some incredible runs and showed his leadership ability as captain on the field. It was also great to see Duncan Mac, Matt Winch, and Jason Willy all returning from serious injuries take the pitch adding depth and fire to our team. Practice is the Key to winning we need to be a team Tuesday and Thursday if we want to improve. NO EXCUSES!!

Portland V's Burlington 37-15
We came up short in Burlington this past Saturday. It was a hard battle for 60 minutes or so but they were just a bit more consistent. We made some painful mistakes at the end and they came away with a victory. This was a wakeup call for our club and a reason to focus on the task at hand. We will be playing this Saturday the 14th at 1:00 on Fox st V's Springfield RFC. Click Directions for the fields location.

Season has started
Our pre season opener went well as we battled Amoskeag RFC on what must have been the hottest day of the summer. Thanks to coach Mikes Training and a great effort from all we were able to come away with the win. We will be playing this weekend (Aug 24th) on Fox St V's the Chicago Blaze at 12:00 noon so come on down and help us win another one! Our official season begins Sept 7th V's Burlington RFC.

Portland 50 Seacoast 14
This past saturday featured a commanding victory for Portland and a nice tune up for the New England Tournament. Though Seacoast has come along way since our last meeting they came up short on douglass st this past weekend. The game was played mostly in their half and we capatalized on some key penalties for scores. We will be traveling to Newport this weekend and are looking forward to some stiff competition. Check us out next week for the details.
