THE RUGBY BOYS HAVE A GREAT SHOWING AT THIS YEARS LOBSTER DIP

The Boys came out in force to support the Special Olympics on New Years Day. A brave group of about 15 team members braved the cold and took a dip at this year Annual Lobster Dip. In all about 207 people dipped for the good cause, unofficial numbers are in at about $20,000 dollars raised for the charity. The money raised will help Maine Special Olympians reach there dreams of gold.
Special Congrats to CC who never felt water as cold as this in South Africa and was brave enough to not only dip once but twice. Special Thanks also to Jess...who filled in for Leo - He still hasn't overcome his fear of the water-. For those of you who weren't there this was a positive step forward in bringing the old boys and are team together as one team. Lets keep this up it can only be a positive for the future of the club and our goals.
This was a great effort in pushing the Portland Rugby Club into the community limelight....In a positive way. Thanks to everyone who was invovled and who supported the dippers.
Note to Players: MAKE THE EFFORT TO TRAIN!!!! THE SEASON IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER.

Portland 7 - Newport 68
A tough day for the boys in Red. A very strong Newport side came to the Dougherty St. field with a mission and kept the pressure on for a full 80 minutes. Despite some success at the line-out, Portland missed plenty of first-up tackles, allowing the strong Newport runners to keep the ball in play past the gain line. Tom Lovering provided the only tally for Portland off a lineout driven in close followed by a series of puch balls.
Portland 33 - Charles River 10
Portland pulled away in the second half behind the tactical kicking of flyhalf Leo Sheidel and the solid play of new scrumhalf Eric "Woody" Wood. Marc Fournier and Todd Roma scored tries while wing Duncan McDougal and newcomer lock James Cannon were tough around the pitch.

Portland 24 - Old Gold 18
In a tough game against a rapidly improving Old Gold team with a new coaching staff, Portland came out on top behind the boot of Andy Nelson, who slotted three penalties to make the difference. Tries came from Todd Roma after a several phases of pressure on the Old Gold line, Man of the Match & scrumhalf Aleksander Jankovic from a lineout driven in from the 22 and Dominic Tracey from a scrummage taken against the head. Jeff Keating, Dave Gullet and Leo Caouette all did well stepping into the breach and contributing solid play.
